SharePoint Workspace 2010, formerly known as Microsoft Groove 2007, is the preferred end-user interface to SharePoint Server 2010 and SharePoint Foundation 2010. It allows coworkers and team members to collaborate by sharing files, participating in online meetings, and using collaboration tools in a shared workspace. For organizations without an installation of SharePoint Server or SharePoint Foundation, SharePoint Workspace can also be used as a peer-to-peer collaboration application or as a managed application when connected to Groove Server 2010.

A SharePoint Server client access license (CAL) gives a user the right to access the services of SharePoint Server. This Enterprise Edition user CAL authorizes a user to use the Enterprise Edition functionality of SharePoint Server from any device (for example, when an employee accesses the server from a computer at work and another at home). An organization must acquire both a Standard Edition CAL and an Enterprise Edition CAL in order to use the Enterprise Edition.

Exchange Server 2010 provides a collaboration environment that delivers secure messaging capabilities to recipients inside and outside an organization. Besides a powerful email server, it supports group scheduling capabilities, discussion groups, team folders, mobile and web access, and a host of other features.

Exchange Server 2010 Standard Edition is designed for small-to-medium-sized organizations. It is limited to five databases, each with a database storage limit of 16 TB. Larger organizations should consider Exchange Server 2010 Enterprise Edition.
