Social Media Tools Workshop

What a blast we had! 40 participants from various NGOs had a great time learning from Beth.

To harness the power of Web 2.0 for CSR practitioners of NASSCOM member companies and Non-Profits, NASSCOM Foundation organized a workshop on social media tools by one of the most respected technology experts worldwide, Beth Kanter on 12th and 13th February 2010 at the American Centre, Mumbai.

The workshop successfully brought together a mix of CSR heads of companies, NGOs, marketing, sales and media professionals. The participants were a mix of professionals who have experience in the social media tools and some who were beginners.

The workshops were kicked off by a round of introductions followed by Beth introducing what social media is all about – using her blog as an example.

The workshop was a very effective insight into what new age social media tools can do for an effective CSR program of a company and also how they help NGOs in building their plans. The social media strategy blocks she identified for the participants were:

  • Listen to what others are saying in relevant public foray
  • Engage with relevant people and build a network of ‘influencers’
  • Ensure that effective social content is put up via social media tools
  • Generate buzz around activities of a company/NGO scenario and bring about more cohesiveness in the practical aspect of social media usage.

Most participants went back excited about the power of social media and with the intent of leveraging the tools for their respective organizations and projects. NASSCOM Foundation has received requests about hosting more such workshops and will endeavour to do so in the coming months.
